Caledonia Street Renovation — 1892 Italianate Victorian, Eastside Santa Cruz

Hansmann Construction completed a full renovation of an 1892 Italianate Victorian home at 440 Caledonia Street in the Eastside neighborhood of Santa Cruz, CA, working with designer Derek Van Alstine. The project scope included:

• Full structural renovation: taken down to the studs and rebuilt throughout

• Historic preservation approach: original 1892-era character maintained, including a custom fireplace mantle designed to match the home's period detailing, and restoration of the exterior's dentil trim

• Fully updated, efficient kitchen integrated into the historic structure

• Historic discovery: original 1892 newspapers were found preserved inside the walls during demolition
